Why You Need a Fine Art Valuation

Art valuations are required for insurance, probate, inheritance tax, family division, private sale and charitable donation. An out-of-date or non-specialist valuation can lead to significant under-insurance — and in the case of probate, can create serious problems with HMRC.

Independent specialist valuation gives you a defensible, evidence-based figure that stands up to scrutiny from insurers, solicitors, courts and tax authorities. Every Prestige report is grounded in current auction data, gallery prices and recent comparable sales.

What's Included in Every Report

Every valuation we issue contains the same level of detail. No shortcuts.

  • Full written description of every work or object

  • Artist or maker attribution, period and provenance notes

  • High-resolution digital photographs

  • Medium, dimensions, condition and distinguishing marks

  • Current market replacement value

  • Insurer-accepted formatting and methodology

  • Issued by qualified specialists with current market knowledge

  • Securely stored on our system for revaluation

Painting Valuation, Antique Valuations and Decorative Arts

We value across every major category of fine and decorative art. Our in-house art consultant, Susan Orringe, brings over twenty years of experience across the entire art market.

Susan can visit you at your residence to appraise art on-site. This is particularly valuable for larger collections, fragile works, or estates being prepared for probate or sale. We also assist executors with the sale of specific items or extensive estates, and can advise on which works are worth retaining and which are best brought to auction.

Fixed Fees, Not Percentages

We charge fixed fees — not a percentage of the value being assigned. Whether you’re insuring a single painting or documenting an entire estate of fine art and antiques, the fee is quoted upfront and never influenced by the figure on the report. That makes our valuation genuinely independent.

Fixed fee per item

We charge a simple fixed fee per item, agreed before you commit.

Your collection stays with you

Your art/antiques never needs to leave your possession overnight.

Truly independent

Because the fee is fixed, the valuation is genuinely independent of the value being assigned.

Trusted by Every Major UK Insurer

Our valuation reports are accepted by Hiscox, Aviva, Allianz, Chubb, AIG and every other major UK insurer. We work directly with brokers, claims specialists and private client advisors across the country — and have done for over 35 years.

Revaluation

Gold prices move. Diamond markets shift. Luxury watch values change constantly. An out-of-date valuation can leave you significantly underinsured at exactly the moment you can least afford it.

Once a Prestige valuation is on file, we can update the replacement value on a biannual basis without needing to see the item again. The original valuation contains everything we need. Revaluation costs from £25 per item, and with your approval we'll notify your insurer of the updated figure directly. No further appointments. No fuss.

Know What You Own. Protect What Matters.

Art carries value that doesn't always sit comfortably on a balance sheet. A painting passed down through three generations. A sculpture bought on a trip you almost didn't take. A collection built quietly over forty years. Our job is to give that value the documentation it needs to be properly insured, properly inherited, and properly protected.

Prestige Valuations carries out independent fine art valuation for private collectors, estates and institutions across the UK. Whether you're insuring a single painting, documenting a collection for probate, or dividing assets between family members, every art valuation is produced by qualified specialists with deep experience across painting, sculpture, decorative arts and antiques. We work closely with the UK's leading insurance companies, law firms and professional advisors. Art valuation London — online, on-site, or at your residence.
