Description
Independent claw and setting check for rings, pendants, earrings and brooches — assessed from four photographs taken on your own phone. Our valuers examine your images for worn, lifted or missing claws and issue a written certificate confirming the condition of your settings, for your insurer or broker. £30 per item, certificate within two working days.

How it works
  1. Photograph your piece — four views on a standard phone camera in daylight: top-down, side profile, underneath the setting, and a close-up of anything concerning you
  2. Upload your images and pay — £30 inc. VAT per item, paid securely online
  3. A qualified valuer examines the photographs — assessing claws, stone security, bezel edges, gallery and shank
  4. Receive your certificate — issued within two working days, confirming the condition of your settings for your insurer or broker

    If any image isn't clear enough to assess with confidence, we'll ask for a replacement at no extra cost.
Pricing

£30 inc. VAT per item, including the certificate.

The fee covers examination by a qualified valuer and the written certificate for your insurer or broker. There are no additional charges — including if we need to ask you for a clearer photograph.

For multiple pieces, add each item separately at £30 per item.

If we identify a problem, your certificate describes what needs attention and you're free to take the piece to any jeweller. Our Hatton Garden workshop can carry out claw re-tipping and setting work if you'd like us to, quoted separately with no obligation.

We check claw settings, rub-over and bezel settings, pavé and channel work, and tension-style mounts.

Engagement rings are the piece we check most often — worn constantly, often for decades, and the most likely to have worn thin without the owner noticing.

INDEPENDENT SETTING CHECK

A lost stone is rarely the real problem. The declined claim is.

Many insurers will refuse a claim where worn settings could have been identified in advance. A claw check gives you written confirmation from a qualified valuer that your settings were in good order — produced by an independent valuation house with over 35 years of insurer-accepted reporting behind it.
